- What’s the difference between a nominal and a notional fire door?
(Plain text — this is an explanation, not a list) Neither is a certified fire door, and both are a compliance risk if found during a fire risk assessment. A nominal fire door is a timber door assumed to offer fire resistance for a set period, but it was never actually tested or certified. A notional fire door is an older door that met the standards in place when it was installed, but typically lacks modern intumescent strips and smoke seals. We’ll flag either if found during a survey.
