Keeping Original Features Where We Can

Period features are what make these buildings special, and a fire door shouldn’t strip that character out. Wherever we can do it without compromising the certified fire performance, we:

  • ✓Remove original architraves and mouldings carefully and refit them
  • ✓Match new architraves and skirting to the original profiles where the old ones can’t be saved
  • ✓Protect floors, ceilings and cornicing while we work
  • ✓Size the door to the original opening, so the proportions of the doorway stay the same

The door, frame, seals, hinges and closer have to work together as a tested and certified assembly, so the original door and frame usually can’t be reused as part of the fire door itself. If your building is listed or in a conservation area, you may need consent from the council before changing doors. We’re happy to work with your managing agent, architect or conservation officer.

Certification and Sign-Off Paperwork

Every period fire door we fit gets the same documented sign-off as any other job. You get a clear record of where each door is, its fire rating (FD30 or FD60), the certified doorset it’s built from, and photos of the key components, fitted following BS 8214:2026 guidance. That’s the evidence your fire risk assessor, insurer or HMO licensing officer will ask for.

Once your doors are in, we can keep them compliant with regular fire door maintenance and independent fire door inspections.
